Mmmm Good Monday: Sausage-Apple Bake

Sausage-Apple Bake

What You Need

  • 2 cans (8 oz. each) crescent rolls
  • 2 lbs. bulk pork or turkey breakfast sausage
  • 2 c. apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 med. onion, chopped (about 1/2 c.)
  • 1.5 Tbsp. grated orange peel from 1 medium orange
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. fennel seed
  • 1.5 c. cheddar cheese, shredded (about 6 oz.)
  • 1.5 c. fontina cheese, shredded (about 6 oz.)

What You Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease 13x9 baking dish.
  2. Unroll 1 can of dough and press perforations to seal.
  3. Bake 10-15 minutes or until golden. Cool while cooking sausage.
  4. In 12" skillet cook sausage over medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently until browned. Drain well and remove from skillet.
  5. In same skillet cook apples, onion and orange peel over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until onion is translucent.
  6. In small bowl, beat eggs and milk.
  7. Stir cooked sausage and fennel seed into apple mixture. Remove from heat. Stir egg mixture into sausage mixture. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over partially baked crust. Spread sausage mixture evenly over cheese. Sprinkle fontina cheese over top.
  8. Unroll second can of crescent rolls, pressing perforations to seal and make 13x9 rectangle. Place dough over mixture in baking dish.
  9. Bake 25-30 minutes.
